Visarc creates bespoke e-learning platform for Hyundai Capital UK

Having already worked with Hyundai Capital UK to create several Umbraco websites and a well-received business intelligence solution, Visarc was commissioned to design and develop an e-learning platform to support the company’s business development managers (BDMs) with the automotive retailer networks of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. Hyundai Capital UK is a joint venture between Santander Consumer UK and Hyundai Capital Services Korea.  Established in 2012 it provides retail finance solutions for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis Finance brands for the purchase of motor vehicles.

challenge

Providing comprehensive dealer training is an important part of Hyundai Capital UK’s overall value proposition. With the dealer network being at the forefront of the customer’s journey it is essential that they have access to the right training material in order to deliver the best customer experience. Hyundai Capital UK needed a learning management solution that could deliver engaging bespoke training materials that could be completed by dealers on a self-learning basis. The solution would also need to test the dealers understanding of those materials, update them on new training content and notify them when they needed to refresh their training to ensure that dealer knowledge is fully up to date.

The team at Hyundai Capital UK also wanted an effective way to track the dealers training progress, to help the business development managers identify where additional support may be required, and to provide the dealer and business with an overview of all training conducted. Additional compliance requirements meant that Hyundai Capital UK needed MI reporting, at a hierarchical level, to allow for reasonable oversight of the dealers training progress.

Finally, the Hyundai Capital UK team needed a flexible solution that would allow for regular updates to the training materials and the ability to introduce future content.

approach

The project kicked off with two main areas of focus, firstly defining the creative style of the training materials and the best way to deliver often complex and detailed topics. Secondly, identifying the requirements of the platform itself, ensuring we could deliver against Hyundai Capital UK’s specific objectives.

For the materials, it was decided that bite-sized training animations were the best way to deliver the content. This was supported by on page downloads for additional learning. The animations were storyboarded by Hyundai Capital UK and produced by Visarc’s creative team.

The platform was then created to support video content with users having to watch the videos before being able to take online tests. The platform allows tests to be set-up with multiple types of questions along with a defined pass mark. Users get instant pass/fail results with help and guidance on any areas where answers are incorrect. Additionally, BDMs get notifications of any user that has locked a topic (with 3 failed attempts) giving them the ability to unlock the content and speak to the salesperson about extra support with the subject.

All of this is then logged within the system, with a dashboard showing progress and completion status for each salesperson. At the same time, details are also logged within the admin space for the Hyundai Capital UK team to analyse and review.

Additional complexities included multiple training levels with courses unlocked as the user progress; training restricted to type of user to provide targeted training for the role; the ability for users to retain their training status if they moved to a new dealership.

The system supports registration requests from the sales teams as well as the ability for BDMs to invite users to the platform. It was also important for the site to be fully responsive so that users could complete training on any device and not be restricted to a desktop environment or a time during busy days.

Train.me has been an important development for Visarc and clearly demonstrates the value that a fully integrated agency can offer established brands. This project involved all parts of our team including analytics, client services, creative, project management, back-end, and front-end web development. Hyundai Capital UK’s specific requirements called for unique animations, tailored assessment workflows and comprehensive reporting capabilities all built into a secure and compliant platform. We do not outsource any of our work for good reason. It gives us total control over both quality and timelines and these are of the upmost importance to Hyundai Capital UK and many of our other clients.

result

90% of the combined Hyundai and Kia dealer networks have signed up, equating to almost 1,500 registered users. The solution has been well received by dealerships and supported by the BDMs at Hyundai Capital UK’s head office.

Further features have been added to the Train.me e-learning platform since launch, with the introduction of expiring topics so that users have to re-take tests to stay up to date. Extra user levels have also been added to give senior staff at dealerships more functionality. The solution also supports the assignment of extra materials by BDMs and admin users to specific salespeople and dealerships.

Training now forms part of dealer standards and is deeply linked to Hyundai Capital UK’s business intelligence platform (The HUB). Its adoption is testament to the huge success our training platform has delivered.
